PLASPEROX TBP 98
is an active
source of free radicals for high temperature (100 1500 C)
polymerization of vinyl, acrylic, allyl and olefin monomers.
PLASPEROX TBP 98
is
particularly suitable for heat curing of unsaturated resins. It is commonly
used when long shelf-life is required, as in sheet/dough moulding compounds
(SMC/DMC). The usage level is normally 1% - 11/2% on
the weight of the polyester resin, depending on the formulation and the curing
conditions.
The quality of surface
finish on press moulded polyester parts depends on the exotherm produced
during curing. PLASPEROX TBP 98 generally produces higher exotherms
than other peroxides and so gives better surface finish on the mouldings.
Certain peroxides like benzoyl peroxide are predictable in their activity in
the presence of some pigments which may inhibit the cure. PLASPEROX TBP
98 does not interact with any pigments.
PLASPEROX TBP 98
is also used as a cross-linking agent for natural and synthetic rubber,
silicone rubbers and polyethylene.
PLASPEROX TBP 98
is used as a drying accelerator for paints and varnishes. It is also used as
a mild oxidizing agent in organic reactions.
HANDLING & STORAGE :
PLASPEROX TBP - 98
is not explosive and is insensitive to shock or friction. It is inflammable
and on ignition burns with an intense smoky flame.
PLASPEROX TBP 98
must be considered as a fire hazard like any other inflammable organic
solvents. It should be kept away from all sources of heat such as radiators,
steam pipes, fire and open flames. Avoid contamination with heavy metals and
their salts, particularly cobalt accelerators. It should be stored in a cool
place away from direct sunlight.
PLASPEROX TBP 98
must be stored in original container which must be vented occasionally to
release any internal pressure.
PACKING & TRANSPORT :
PLASPEROX TBP 98
supplied in 50 kgs. polythene container is transported by road, rail or sea.
It is prohibited for despatch by air or postal service.
WARNING :
PLASPEROX TBP 98
is an
oxidizing agent and care must be taken to avoid contact with skin, eyes and
clothing. In the event of contact with skin, wash off immediately with soap
and water. If it enters the eye, immediate and prolonged irrigation with
water. A freshly prepared 5% solution of sodium ascorbate or bicarbonate or
OPTREX eye lotion should be given followed by prompt medical attention.
